WEEK 8 PREVIEW

Hiya everyone -- welcome to Week 8, or as we like to call it around here: "Copy and paste the opening text from last season's Week 8 page" week:

First, it's that time of year again -- time to check out how things are looking for the league leaders, and how the playoff picture would look if our season were only seven weeks long. Time to launch the weekly "If The Playoffs Were Held Today..." chart! Of course, many of the rankings aren't 100% fair right now, as players haven't all faced an equal number of divisional and conference opponents. However, it still works as a good indicator for how a particular player's season is going.

Basically, if you're in the white part, keep up the good work. If you're in the gray area, you'd best step things up a bit. And if you're not on there at all, time to get your game in gear now! Here we go:

We'll be putting a new chart up in each preview to reflect that week's changes. And as always, clicking on the chart will bring you to all the previous week's charts (not a lot there right now, obviously).

Ok, on to the new news -- the AFC South is seeing full divisional action this week, and at the moment it's a three-way race. The husband-and-wife matchup of Horns vs. Yellow Jackets will push one player back down in the ranking while giving the winner a very nice boost heading into the second half of the season. So far, Horns has a 3-2 advantage in head-to-head matches against Yellow Jackets, and he'll need to get a win here if he wants to jump back into the driver's seat.

In the other half of the AFC South, Mother Cluckers is looking to keep pace by beating Jr. Barnes. With a win, Mother Cluckers would stay in contention and could come out of this week with the division lead. For his part, Jr. Barnes is looking to make it two-in-a-row after starting the season winless. Will the bye week have been the catalyst for a stunning season rebound for Jr. Barnes?

The bad: Lyle Alzado currently has the lowest pick total in the league this season. The good: A win here could possibly give her the division lead anyway. The Bad: Lyle Alzado only has two wins on the season. The Good: Both those wins were in divisional matches -- including a week 3 match against her opponent this week, Big Blue. For his part, Big Blue could come out on top of the division this week as well. One thing is for certain -- they'll both be rooting for current division leader Why Not Zoidberg? to stumble this week, in which case the winner here will hop into the AFC West lead.

Bad Mice is looking to keep his spot atop the NFC East and his unblemished divisional record, this week by getting one over on Turf Toe. The lead is Bad Mice's to lose, while Turf Toe is having a tough year so far -- if he wants to make any noise down the road, it has to begin now. One interesting stat between these two -- each time one of them got a season sweep over the other, that player made it to the Super Bowl that year.

Ok, that's about it for the early part of the preview. Picks are due in by 8:00 on Friday -- don't miss out!

Your picks are in, and there isn't very much dissention on the pick chart this week -- the largest number of differences in any match is four, and we have a One-Hit Wonder Match of the Week. Schwantoes is looking to stay atop his division with a win by Carolina, while Evil Squad Of Evil will get a victory if Minnesota takes this one.

And that's about it for this week's preview. Take a look at the pick chart and check back on Sunday for all your results. Good luck, everyone!

WEEK 8 RESULTS

1:00 Games: No one picked up on the Rams upset of the Saints, but a couple players got an advantage with the Vikings getting one over on the Panthers. Two of those players rode that upset to a win, with Evil Squad Of Evil and Secretly Victorious closing things out early.

4:00 Games: First off, correction from the preview - observant players might note that there used to be two one-difference matches, but we've removed one after realizing that Deesato picked the Broncos, not the Lions, so he's actually involved in a two-difference match.

That out of the way, we only had one match settled in this session with Lacie Belles picking up an important win.

As you can see on the updated pick chart, the late game will be a very important one with many matches being decided there -- check back after that one for a slew of new results.

8:30 Game: Not as many decided here as expected -- three more in the books as Mother Cluckers, Mike W and Turf Toe closed out their matches. That leaves a huge seven matches coming down to MNF -- check back tomorrow night to see how things come together.

Monday Night Football: A wild finish gave the Chiefs an overtime victory, giving wins to Yellow Jackets, Lacie Belles, Mike C, Deesato, Ignats and Big Blue. We also saw our second tie of the season as StuB and Fighting Sporks fought to a draw.

Mike C adds to his resume of accomplishments for this season -- our only undefeated player has garnered himself this week's Player of the Week award! He was one of ten players to get ten correct picks this week, but he was the only one to pick the MNF score on the nose.

Ok, that'll about wrap things up for another week in the pool -- check the finalized pick chart, see how you're looking in the updated Standings and get a jump on your Week 9 picks submissions. Have a great week, all
