2017 KICKOFF!

Ahhh, the first Monday in September -- synonymous with two Great American Traditions: Labor Day, and the launch of this season's NFL 1-On-1 Pool!

Let's start out with a big welcome to this year's rookie class. We send warm greetings to our three newest players, Fishlady, What's Football? and Cutler's Revenge. Welcome to the league, everyone! One other new name appears in the ranks -- Eighteen has changed his name to Heisendad.

The layout of the league is pretty much the same as it was last year -- the three departing players were all from the same division, so the AFC South is pretty rookie-packed this year (it's going to be interesting to see how StuB fares!). We didn't have to move anyone else around, so here's how things will look this season:

I ask everyone to poke around and see if you come across any glitches or bad links anywhere on the site. And you'd like any customized colors, graphics, or whatnot on your player page, or if you'd like a name change, then by all means let me know.

Next up is the copy-and-paste-from-last-year portion. As a service to the newcomers (and a refresher to the vets), here's a quick primer on the buttons you'll find at the bottom of this page:

Match-Ups & Results - Shows you who is going to be playing against whom, in both real NFL games and our 1-On-1 Matches. All 17 weeks are covered, so you can see past, present and future match-ups.
Submit Picks - Where you go to get your picks in. Picks for Thursday games are due in by noon that Thursday, and Sunday games are due in by noon that Saturday.
Weekly Standings - Shows how each player is doing. Contains a breakdown of all players by division and conference, plus their records. Also shows Power Rankings and a history of the season's Players of the Week.
Rules & Info (FAQ) - Pretty much every little thing you could possibly want to know about the NFL 1-On-1 Pool.
1-On-1 Pool History - Want to relive the previous seasons? Here's where you can do it.
1-On-1 Pool Facebook page - If you're on facebook, you can use this to talk crap to other players, as well as keep abreast of pool developments. It's a closed group, but simply use the link to request membership and it'll be approved quickly.

The other important link is for the Subscription Page. If you still need to pay your entry fee, this is place where you can do it (sooner would be better than later, please).

This is the spot where we usually go over any rule updates, payout changes, etc. that have been updated this season. Well, after 14 years, it looks like we may have gotten this thing right -- there are no changes from last year to this one!

Ok, let's take a look at what we have in store this week:

WEEK 1 PREVIEW

For the newcomers, this spot is where we do our write-ups -- a weekly preview of all the week's divisional matches. We're a bit pressed for time, so we're making these quick looks this week.

We'll kick things off in the AFC North where the entire group is facing divisional action. We have last season's top-ranked player, JPP's Missing Fingers, looking to make it three-in-a-row over I Will Win It All, while 2016 Wild Card player Brenda's Bulldogs looks to make a return to the postseason, starting with a win over Mean Machine.

It's a rookie-vs-rookie matchup in the AFC South, where both What's Football? and Cutler's Revenge will get their feet wet together. Someone will be starting off their 1-On-1 Pool time off on the right foot!

Why Not Zoidberg?, last season's AFC West champion, will look to make it another season sweep over Lyle Alzado.

We'll wrap things up in the NFC East where we have Hyena and Bad Mice. They were the bottom half of the division last year, so the winner of this one will be be making a big step up to the top of the group.

Ok, that'll do it for this preview. Make sure you have your Thursday Night Football pick submitted by noon on Thursday. For the rookies, and as a refresher to everyone else, if you don't have your pick in on time, then you default to the away team (Chiefs over Patriots, is this case) and you become ineligible to win that week's Player of the Week bonus.

Good luck everyone, and have a great season!

All right, the first picks of the season are in! It's no surprise that practically everyone picked the Patriots -- in fact, the only surprise is that anyone picked the Chiefs. Are you the one player that is either looking at a cakewalk one-pick advantage or is on the wrong end of a heartbreaking upset? Take a look at the updated pick chart and see.

Woohoo, back to da foozball!

Well this doesn't bode well. One game into the season, and we already have our first goof-up. As it turns out, there were actually two players on the wrong end of a heartbreaking upset last night. We awoke this morning to a "Didn't I picked KC?" text from Pigskin Palookas, and it turns out that yes, yes he did. So apologies go out to Fighting Sporks who had no idea he was rooting hard for the Patriots last night.

The pick chart has been updated to reflect this change.

Ok, all the picks are in, and we have one specialty match on the board this week. When two players pick differently in more than half of that week's games, then that contest is named a Diverse Picks Match of the Week. Well, this week we have Why Not Zoidberg? and Lyle Alzado going opposite ways on nine out of 16 games. Will this one be a blowout, a MNF squeaker, or something in between? Take a look at the first complete pick chart of the season and see what you think.

WEEK 1 RESULTS

Thursday Night Football: Alex Smith and the Chiefs shock Patriots and the world...except for the two players who picked them. A gutsy underdog pick gives Pigskin Palookas and Evil Squad Of Evil a nice advantage as we head into Sunday. Check back after the early games to see who closes things out early.

1:00 Games: Three player get early wins to start the season as Mike C, Jeff B, and Heisendad each get the job done. The pick chart has been updated, so take a look and see what you need going into the afternoon games.

4:30 Games: Four more locked down, as Rabid Ferrets, JPP's Missing Fingers, Mean Machine, and Lyle Alzado each put up a victory.

Monday Night Football: Two MNF games on hand here, giving us winners in the four remaining matches for this week. When the smoke cleared, it was Cutler's Revenge, Ragesters, Alabama Slammers, and Bad Mice who came away with their hands held high.

Congratulations go out to Heisendad -- although we had several players go an impressive 11-of-15 this week, he was the only one who hit the MNF score total right on the nose. That performance earns him the first Player of the Week of the season -- nicely done!

All right, that'll about do it for this opening week. Congratulations to those who chalked up victories, and better luck next week to those who found themselves on the wrong end of the scoring chart. Take a look at the finalized pick chart, see how you're looking in the utterly meaningless Week 1 Standings, and get a jump on your Week 2 pick submissions. Have a great week everyone!
